Electric BMW M3 Unleashes Four Motors and Serious M Attitude

Four motors, one badge and zero apologies. BMW has dropped fresh teaser images of the all-electric BMW M3, and the timing is no accident because Munich has just rolled out its millionth M car. This prototype tames the wild M Concept Neue Klasse into something you could park outside the office. Yet it still looks ready to pick a fight.

Square track lights glare from both ends, borrowing their signature from the BMW M Hybrid V8 Le Mans racer. Swollen wheelarches carry over from the concept, while a vent punches through the bonnet. Out back, a hefty diffuser and integrated spoiler sit beneath a carbon-fibre double-bubble roof. Yellow daytime running light accents shout motorsport. A fresh take on the famous kidneys even appears at the rear.

Now for the hardware. Each wheel gets its own electric motor, and the full system can unleash up to 1,341bhp in its wildest configuration. Don’t expect that figure on the road car, though. Christian Karg, BMW Group’s head of vehicle dynamics, insists precision is what makes an M car unique, so the production version should land between 650 and 750bhp. That still promises savage pace.

Clever software does the heavy lifting. BMW M Dynamic Performance Control juggles torque across all four corners, while the front motors can decouple to turn the M3 into a rear-driven hooligan or simply save energy on a cruise. A battery of over 100kWh, packed with sixth-generation cylindrical cells, feeds the beast. Range remains under wraps. Inside, a red gear selector, shift paddles and M-mode buttons keep the focus firmly on driving.

Silence is not on the menu either. BMW has crafted a synthesised soundtrack inspired by the E92 M3, the F82 M4 GTS and the V10-powered E63 M6. Purists can still opt for a petrol M3 with a mild-hybrid straight-six and race-bred pre-chamber combustion. Both versions will be built in Munich, revealed in 2027 and on sale in 2028. The future of M just found its voice.
