MINI Cooper vehicles are currently under investigation by U.S. safety regulators for possible defects that increase the risk for accidents as the power steering fails.
The models that will be investigated are Mini Coopers from model years 2004-2005, for a total of around 80,000 vehicles. 54 complaints about unexpected power-steering loss has already been received by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
BMW spokesman Tom Kowaleski said that they will comply with the requirements of the safety regulators.
