MINI Countryman D Takes Tokyo Streets and Fuji Roads in Stride

The MINI Countryman D feels made for Japan’s contrasts: tight, stop-start city lanes one minute, then sweeping roads with Mount Fuji filling the windscreen the next. It keeps the brand’s familiar point-and-shoot handling, but pairs it with a diesel punch that suits long climbs, quick overtakes and effortless cruising when the route opens up.

Under the bonnet sits a diesel unit producing 163 hp and 400 Nm of torque, delivering strong pull from low revs and the kind of flexibility that makes urban driving less of a chore. It’s the sort of power delivery that works neatly in dense traffic, yet still has enough shove for faster sections outside the capital.

Practicality is where the Countryman D really earns its keep. The boot starts at 450 litres and expands to 1,450 litres, leaving plenty of room for hiking boots, camera bags and kit for a day in the mountains. Fold the rear seats, and it turns into a genuinely useful load bay, ready for spur-of-the-moment detours and longer trips alike.

Visually, the Favoured Trim sharpens the Countryman’s stance with crisp details, including an octagonal grille finished in Vibrant Silver. Against Blazing Blue paintwork, the brightwork pops without looking fussy, giving the car a clean, confident look that suits both city kerbs and scenic viewpoints.
