BMW is putting the iX3 front and centre at CES 2026, using the show to debut a sharper, more conversational BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant powered by Amazon’s Alexa+ technology. The aim is simple: make the car easier to live with by turning the cabin into a place where spoken requests feel natural, quick, and properly connected to what the vehicle can do.
The upgraded assistant is designed to understand everyday language rather than rigid commands, letting drivers and passengers bundle requests into a single sentence without tripping over set phrases. Ask for information, change a vehicle setting, then follow up with a casual “take me there,” and the system can carry that context straight into navigation or other onboard functions, keeping the interaction smooth and driver-focused.
This debut also ties into BMW’s latest interface direction, pairing digital menus with physical controls to keep key tasks simple while you’re on the move. The iX3’s new cockpit concept puts clarity first, supporting BMW’s familiar “hands on the wheel” approach while expanding what you can do through voice, steering-wheel inputs, and the central display without turning the cabin into a distraction.
When the iX3 is stationary, BMW is also leaning into in-car media and downtime features, with a broader selection of apps for streaming, audio and entertainment through its connected ecosystem. The point isn’t to turn the car into a lounge, but to make waiting time feel useful, whether that’s catching up on a programme, choosing a playlist, or jumping into a quick game using a phone as a controller.
Behind the scenes, BMW is positioning the iX3 as a more software-led vehicle, where computing power and over-the-air capability keep features evolving after it leaves the showroom. The Alexa+-enabled assistant is expected to roll out from the second half of 2026 in Germany and the United States first, before spreading more widely across compatible BMW models and operating systems as the brand scales this next wave of cabin tech.
