[Video] ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe tops 327 km/h

It’s no secret that the people at AutoTopNL produce top-speed videos. In their most recent episode, the ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe was driven to a top speed of 327 km/h (or 203 mph). The test was conducted, as expected, on a stretch of the German Autobahn that was free of speed limits. The 4.4-litre V8 found in the ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe was developed from a BMW N63 and had dual turbocharging. However, ALPINA made significant modifications to its engine, including installing new pistons, turbochargers, an intake manifold, and an exhaust system.

Afterwards, the part switching yielded 612 hp and 690 lb-ft of torque. ALPINA says the car can hit 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and 124 km/h in 11.6 seconds (200 mph). In the B8 Gran Coupe, the eight-speed ZF automatic transmission responds variably depending on the mode of operation.

Perhaps even more remarkable is the ALPINA B8’s handling at those speeds. The ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe is stable and silent for a car that travels a football field in seconds. There aren’t many automakers that can match ALPINA’s ability to manufacture exquisite, high-end missiles.

The ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe is, of course, more than just a racecar. The spoiler lip on the trunk lid makes it even more noticeable among the 8 Series lineup. Classic 21-inch forged wheels and a black diffuser let the B8 Gran Coupe stand out. Behind the 20-spoke alloys are Brembo blue brake callipers with 395- and 398-millimeter discs. ALPINA-exclusive Blue Metallic and Green Metallic, Portimao Blue, Sanremo Green, Skyscraper Grey, Frozen Pure Grey, and Frozen Tanzanite Blue are available for the B8 Gran Coupe. The ALPINA B8 Gran Coupe has hand-finished leather inside with lighted door sills and a crystal glass iDrive controller.
