G01 BMW X3 M40i and BMW X3 M to launch in 2017

Autobild reports that the third-generation BMW X3 will be released in 2017 and built under the codename G01. The 2017 BMW X3 will include an M40i model and a full M-developed X3 M. BMW X3 M40i will be powered by a 3.0 liter inline-six turbocharged engine producing 360 hp, while the X3 M is expected to also have the S55 3.0 liter engine from the new M3/M4 which delivers 425 horsepower.

The design lines of the third generation X3 is expected to follow the F15 BMW X5 and F16 BMW X6. The proportions of the G01 X3 are expected to remain the same, in the light of the BMW X7 being positioned above the X5.

BMW will develop the X3 on a new, flexible modular system – this offers more interior space and a redesigned seating system also ensures higher variability and greater comfort.

Unlike the X5, the X3 retains the one-piece tailgate. Additional to the soft automated opening of the tailgate, the new X3 will also include gestured controlled closing of the same tailgate.

While it remains with only two rows of seats, the rear seats can be adjusted for height, length and backrest angle. The roller cover disappears when not in use in a recess in the boot floor.

The built-available panoramic roof has a much larger opening, a double vent position (front / rear) and a second deflector as a protective measure against back winds.

The Wheelbase, width and height will increase slightly. In conjunction with six-cylinder engines, there are 19-inch wheels and larger brakes, in addition to xLine and M-Sport offered again.

The front design was adjusted due to the new pedestrian safety regulations and now sits a little straighter than before. Among the most striking aerodynamic measures is the inclusion of the vent behind the front wheel arches, the unusually high circulating rear spoiler lip and the striking roof spoiler. Also new are the Yamaha adaptive LED headlamps.

BMW will unveil the new X3 in 2016.
