BMW MegaCity may have an optional Range Extender

Frederick Eichiner, BMW Financial Officer, said that the BMW Vehicle Mega City Vehicle will receive an optional range extender. It is a small internal combustion engine which can charge the battery while driving, which will definitely increase the range of the car. This can be ordered together with the electric vehicle.

The range extender will increase the driving range of the vehicle significantly. The Megacity Vehicle’s lithium-ion battery with 35 kWh of capacity only delivers around 100 miles of driving range before recharging. This might be good for city driving, but for certain situations, a range extender will be helpful. It will add at least 50% more driving range which turns the Megacity into a more functional vehicle. It will not be limited to city driving alone.
