BMW M4 Bovensiepen Zagato Coupe Shows Off Double-Bubble Roof

The BMW M4 Bovensiepen Zagato Coupe drew eager crowds at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, proof that a fresh set of coachbuilt panels can turn a familiar performance car into something truly captivating. Built on the M4 Convertible but shorn of its fabric hood, the German–Italian collaboration adopts Zagato’s trademark double-bubble roof in carbon fibre, instantly changing the car’s character while retaining the open-pillar elegance of the donor. New 20-inch forged wheels, a wrap-around glasshouse and a subtly integrated rear spoiler complete a profile that looks every inch a modern grand tourer rather than a re-skinned production model.

Up front, the elongated bonnet incorporates a neat U-shaped vent, and—for many eyes—the most striking change is what is missing: the controversial oversized kidney grilles. In their place sits a cleaner, more traditional intake that allows the flowing bodywork and laser tail-lamps to take centre stage. Carbon-fibre panels keep weight in check, while a titanium Akrapovi? Exhaust trims even more mass and adds a sharper straight-six bark. The interior remains unmistakably BMW yet gains bespoke blue leather and Alcantara that echo the exterior hue, reminding occupants that this is no standard M-car.

Power is supplied by an uprated S58 twin-turbo three-litre straight-six delivering 602 hp and 700 Nm, channelled through an eight-speed automatic and BMW’s xDrive system. The result is a launch from rest to 62 mph in 3.3 seconds and a top speed beyond 186 mph, numbers that place the coupe squarely in super-saloon territory while promising unruffled continental pace.

Each transformation from M4 Convertible to Bovensiepen Zagato Coupe demands more than 250 hours of skilled labour in Buchloe and Milan, ensuring that production will remain strictly limited. With Alpina’s heritage secured under BMW ownership and the Bovensiepen brothers charting their own path, this double-bubble beauty signals a bold new chapter for bespoke BMWs—one where coachbuilding flair meets M-division muscle without a hint of compromise.
