BMW Boosts BEV Sales Amid Global Challenges

Despite facing tough global market conditions, the BMW Group has seen significant growth in its electric vehicle (BEV) sales. In the first nine months of 2024, the company delivered 294,054 BEVs, marking a +19.1% increase from the same period last year. The BMW brand, in particular, saw a +22.6% rise in BEV sales, with 266,151 vehicles sold. MINI, too, experienced a surge, delivering 16,536 fully electric models in the third quarter alone, a +54.3% increase.

This surge in sales is a testament to BMW’s focus on technology and customer satisfaction. According to Jochen Goller, a BMW AG Board member, their electric models are gaining popularity across various regions. Europe remains a key market, with BMW delivering 577,803 vehicles in the region between January and September, a +7.6% increase. The demand for fully electric models in Europe also soared, with sales rising by +35.8%, driven by countries like the UK, Italy, and France.

However, the company did face some challenges. BMW’s overall sales declined slightly, with 1,754,158 vehicles delivered to customers by the end of September, reflecting a -4.5% drop. This was largely due to supply issues, particularly with the Integrated Braking System (IBS) and a slowing market in China. Despite these setbacks, BMW remains confident in its performance, especially with the strong demand for its electric lineup.

The BMW brand continues to lead in the electric market, with popular models like the iX1 and i4 driving growth. Additionally, BMW M GmbH showed solid performance, delivering 146,574 vehicles, while MINI’s fully-electric models continue to attract attention, particularly in the third quarter of 2024.
