BMW has updated the 3 Series Touring in 320d configuration as part of the G20/G21 family facelift. As expected, the M3 Touring has been gaining the most attention recently. Still, most sales will come from these lower-end variants, and the 320d has always been popular.
There are 50th-anniversary emblems on the long-roof 3er which is painted in a grey colour. Also, the front and rear bumpers feature a retro-inspired logo. At the same time, the wheel centre caps include the traditional BMW roundel.
Run-flat tyres and optional 19-inch Jet Black alloy wheels with a double-spoke design give this 320d a sporty look. When you upgrade to the M Sport package, you get M-branded red brake callipers, which contrast with the dark alloy wheels. The car’s buyer decided to play it safe with a black leather interior and no panoramic sunroof. The 320d Touring, like other contemporary 3 Series cars, has a 12.3-inch driver’s display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen operating system. Despite being only available with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the 320d’s turbodiesel engine is still available. LCI has introduced a 48V mild-hybrid system to help BMW fulfil more severe European Union emissions and fuel efficiency standards. It takes 7.2 seconds to go from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in its Touring body style, and it can reach a top speed of 142 miles per hour (229 km/h).
The 3 Series Touring in the 320d flavour is still a superb all-arounder, with plenty of practicality and excellent fuel economy. The LCI, which was just unveiled, brings even more technology to the table at a higher price point, but that’s a dilemma that practically every new car faces.
