The BMW M340i, a standout in the 3 Series, boasts a six-cylinder engine without the M3’s visual drama. With a stage 2 kit, the xDrive version’s upgraded B58 engine now hits about 480 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. However, facing off against the Audi S5 Sportback, the M340i falls short.
The S5, armed with a Quattro-powered 3.0-liter V6 pushing 476 hp and 576 lb-ft of torque, outperforms the BMW in the drag races. Clocking 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and the quarter mile in 11.3 seconds, the tuned Audi takes the lead. In contrast, the BMW needs 3.57 seconds for the sprint and 12 seconds for the quarter-mile mark.
Both cars, though not ludicrous, prove impressively quick. The S5’s dominant acceleration surprises, highlighting that numbers alone don’t ensure victory. The overheating aftermath underscores the unpredictability of tuned cars, extending beyond engine enhancements.
One might have expected the M340i to emerge victorious, but in the realm of tuned cars undergoing modifications beyond the engine, numerical figures don’t always tell the whole story.
