At the Nürburgring, BMW M Motorsport engineers revealed their latest innovation: the BMW M4 GT3 EVO. This upgraded model, showcased before the iconic 24-hour race, represents a significant leap in GT racing technology. Set to hit the tracks in the 2025 season, the EVO version aims to build on the success of its predecessor by focusing on drivability, efficiency, and reliability.
The development of the M4 GT3 EVO involved extensive collaboration with teams and drivers to better understand their needs. Rather than focusing solely on performance, BMW emphasized creating a more durable and easier-to-handle car. Jens Klingmann, Bruno Spengler, and Augusto Farfus led the testing efforts, ensuring the car meets the high standards expected in GT racing.
The M4 GT3 EVO features notable visual changes. The chassis now sports a lighter cathodic dip coating instead of traditional paint. Aerodynamic improvements include smaller aero mirrors, larger air outlets on the front wheel arches, and an adjustable rear wing. These modifications enhance the car’s aerodynamic efficiency, which is crucial for competitive racing.
Technically, the EVO package introduces new anti-roll bars, larger rear brake discs, and a refined differential. These updates reduce tyre and brake wear, enhancing the car’s consistency and drivability over long runs. Additionally, the headlights have been redesigned to match the LCI design, further modernizing the car’s appearance.
The EVO’s “Inception” design integrates digital and dimensional themes, featuring high-contrast mosaics in BMW’s iconic colours. The livery includes non-reflective matte black sections to aid driver focus, and the authentic carbon fibre construction is visible in dark areas to reduce weight.
BMW M Motorsport executives expressed their confidence in the new EVO model. Andreas Roos highlighted the M4 GT3’s impressive track record, including multiple DTM titles and a victory at the 24h Spa-Francorchamps. He believes the EVO version will continue this legacy of success. Björn Lellmann emphasized that the updates reflect customer feedback, aiming to balance speed with safety for drivers of all levels.
Jens Klingmann, a BMW M works driver, played a crucial role in the EVO’s development. He noted that numerous minor adjustments have collectively resulted in significant improvements. The EVO’s enhanced tyre and brake management will benefit during long stints in races.
