A drag race between a sedan and the 911 Turbo S may not sound exciting. But BMW M5 CS versus Porsche 997 Turbo S is a thrilling idea!
The Porsche here is an older 997-generation model. And it goes against the more powerful and lighter M5 CS compared to its Competition version. This drag race is between two performance cars from two different perspectives.
BMW M5 CS packs a 635 horsepower and 750 Nm (553 pound-feet) of torque. Its twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine also carries an extra 105 hp and 50 Nm compared to the 997 Turbo S. Nevertheless, the super sedan is still heavy even after its strict diet. It weighs 1,825 kilograms (4,023 pounds). Therefore, the bimmer weighs 240 kg (529 lbs) more than the Porsche coupe.
Both performance cars have automatic transmissions. They feature launch control that sends power to all wheels. But the 911’s flat-six 3.0 liter engine is placed at the back; giving it better weight balance. As an old model, the Porsche’s 3.8-liter, twin-turbo mill sounds more powerful and aggressive. The bimmer’s S63 engine sounds more tamed due to the mandatory gasoline particle filter.
BMW M5 CS versus Porsche 997 Turbo S drag race ended with the M5 CS taking a win. But things went different in other conditions. So, depending on how you perceive the race, the true winner may change. Still, the fact that the M5 CS wins the drag race is a big victory for a heavy sedan. Others, however, might argue that an old Porsche going against a new bimmer makes the former an absolute machine. In the end, it all depends on how you justify the drag race’s end.
