BMW iNext to be produced in the Dingolfing Plant

Currently, all BMW i car models are manufactured at the Leipzig plant. However, BMW is planning to develop the BMW iNext in the Dingolfing Plant. The German Automaker is already planning for the production of their most futuristic car to date and every small decision matters in the success of the production run in 2021.

BMW iNext to be produced in the Dingolfing Plant

In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, BMW CEO Harald Krüger described the “proximity to the BMW Group’s technology division and the development of the electric drivetrain” as decisive criteria for the decision.

The development of the BMW iNext will include lightweight construction with carbon fiber. To goal is to create a car that drives clean, has an extended driving range, and can drive autonomously in the most advanced level — Level 5. It will be one of the most advanced and powerful cars in history.

Since there will need to be very close monitoring of the technology during production, the proximity of the plant matters. BMW is not taking any chances. They have decided to build a new development center for autonomous driving just a few weeks back. The center will just be in the north of Munich and will have more than 2,000 employees dedicated to the development of autonomous driving that meets the standard required by the consumers and lawmakers.

The 2021 market launch date has been confirmed by Harald Krüger.
