The MINI 1998 GT Edition has landed, and it wears its motorsport past with pride. This is a limited run, built to salute a badge that MINI has carried through the decades. It takes the compact MINI Cooper C two-door as its base. Then it layers on a look that nods straight to the marque’s racing bloodline.
The name is no accident. It points to the 1,998cc turbocharged four under the bonnet. The GT letters reach further back still. They trace a line from the classic Mini 1275 GT to the later MINI 1499 GT. Both were quick, cheeky and full of character. This new edition aims to carry that torch.
Outside, the car is finished in Midnight Black Metallic. Bold orange graphics run along the lower body, stamped with ‘1998 GT’ lettering. GT badging and matching orange accents sharpen the theme. The stance is completed by 17-inch John Cooper Works Sprint Spoke wheels in black. A John Cooper Works aero kit adds a keener, track-minded edge.
Slip inside, and the theme continues. John Cooper Works Sport Seats come trimmed in black Vescin with a black knit finish. A heated three-spoke JCW steering wheel carries its own GT badge. There are bespoke 1998 GT floor mats and door sills. Even the key fob cover and centre console lid get the GT treatment.
The edition is the sixth of eight special drops MINI is releasing in the United States this year. The campaign borrows from sneaker culture, with each model given its own reveal and moment. The timing is fitting, as 2026 marks 25 years of the modern MINI. Production starts in October, with the first cars reaching dealers in November. Blink, and this one could be gone.
