[Video]: BMW M440i Gran Coupe runs faster in a review test

Many people were skeptical about the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe when it was first introduced, but the sleek vehicle has grown in popularity over time. According to BMW, the Gran Coupe model accounted for more than half of all BMW 4 Series sales throughout its production run. This equates to around 800,000 units sold, indicating commercial success. For this reason alone, the Bavarians were forced to develop a second generation.

This is now available for viewing, with a review by none other than Mat Watson of CarWow. The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe has been put through all its standard tests, including the stick of truth and the standard acceleration drive. And while we have already seen a number of reviews of the new 4 Series, the acceleration test is the one we are most interested in. This is the top-of-the-line M440i model, which means it boasts some impressive performance figures.

The 3-litre inline-six produces 374 hp and 500 Nm of torque under the bonnet. The European models have a particulate filter, which is different from the US version. It is also an xDrive model, which means that the wheels get the same torque as needed. The 8-speed gearbox is a ZF masterpiece. BMW claims that this combination will get you to 60mph in 4.7 seconds.

However, you’ll be pleased to hear that Mat’s test results are better. According to his Vbox, the M440i made the distance in 4.23 seconds, about half a second faster! This huge discrepancy between Mat’s performance and that of his competitors raises a number of questions. In his opinion, BMW is only downplaying the car’s performance.
