Under the bonnet, a four-cylinder engine replaces the previous three-cylinder unit on select models, increasing torque for brisker acceleration and more confident passing power. The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is shared among the Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works variants. However, the top-tier model features shorter gear ratios that deliver a keener response in its most spirited driving mode.
Thanks to clever engineering and structural enhancements, the convertible handles road imperfections with minimal chassis shake, and its manually installed wind-blocker helps ensure cabin comfort at higher speeds. The cloth roof design—complete with a “sunroof mode” that retracts only the front section—remains quick to open or close at speeds up to 19 mph so drivers can transition effortlessly between airy cruising and a snug interior. This adaptable top mechanism also allows easy boot access by lifting the rear of the folded roof.
Although standard phone-as-key technology requires a quick tap rather than full wireless entry, the overall interior execution is polished and driver-focused, with an oval-themed aesthetic that echoes Mini’s endearing heritage. Thanks to its agile dimensions and confident road manners, the new MINI Cooper Convertible strikes a refreshing balance between everyday usability and spirited performance, inviting drivers to enjoy open-air journeys with hallmark MINI characters.
