Rumored BMW M2 might just be the next greatest ///M car

The rumormill is churning loudly again about a possible future BMW M2. Several sources close to BMW continue to indicate that the M division is actively considering an M version of the recently unveiled 2 Series Coupe, despite already having an exciting offering in the line-up, the M235i.

This new rendering by Theophilus Chin shows an M2 model with the usual M front-end design, flared wheel arches and wider track than the 2 Series Coupe. At the rear, the M2 gets a rear spoiler and the signature M four-exhaust pipes. Though futuristic, the design is relaisitic and similar to what BMW has previewed with their M235i Racing car.

With an aggressive package, the M2 will strongly differentiate itself from the M135i hatch and the M235i Coupe model.

BMW M2 is expected to have the new chassis technology found in the M3 and M4, including an electronically controlled limited slip rear differential dubbed Active M Differential.

Rumor has it that a BMW M2 prototype is currently running under the hood an updated version of the N55 TwinPower 3.0 liter engine (N55B30T0) and it runs with both a manual and automatic transmission. Expected power output is 360 to 380 ponies.

If the M2 becomes a reality, it may just be the next greatest ///M car.
