Next F30 3 Series Rumored to be longer than the current model

The 2012 BMW 3 Series will feature a wider track and a longer wheelbase according to MotorTrend. Rumor has it that the F30 platform will be shared with the next generation 1 Series which will launch in the last quarter of 2011. MotorTrend speculates that the new 3 Series will be 2 inches longer than its predecessor, which will make it more similar to the new 5 Series. The exterior design will have softer lines and shorter overhangs giving more space. The hood centerline will be slightly raised for increased pedestrian protection. Motor Trend also believes the platform will be an update of the existing hardware. It will have a five-link rear end made of forged aluminum. Because of the new electronics networks, rumor has it that it will come with optional adaptive dampers and active front steering. As of the moment, none of these rumors have been confirmed.

It will be powered by a series of new four-cylinder turbo engines replacing the current six-cylinders. A high-end six-cylinder 3.0 liter engine will with an output of 320 horsepower will be on top of the line up. The new 3 Series will most likely launch in the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
