Rumor has it that there will be a new 3.3 liter six-cylinder engine with triple turbochargers, one of which is powered by electricity, that will be used by the new BMW M3. With this information, we are still left to guess if it will be using an inline-6 or a new V6. The rumors around this new engine is consistent with the announcement for the upcoming BMW X6 xDrive50i which for the first time will use a tri-turbocharged diesel engine. The possibility of moving the engine downwards has also been hinted back in 2009 by former BMW M boss Ludwig Willisch. The tri-turbo diesel engine is said to be similar to the inline six-cylinder with 3.0 liter displacement and three turbochargers. Power will peak around the 400 horsepower mark.
