The BMW M2 Racing takes centre stage next weekend as the new BMW M2 Cup makes its debut at the Lausitzring as part of the DTM programme. The series exists to give rising talent a chance to prove themselves on a major platform. Through the Road to DTM initiative, the ADAC supplies a comprehensive support package, while BMW M delivers the M2 Racing as the perfect entry-level machine. The standout reward awaits the season’s best driver, who earns a place in the selection process for the BMW M Racing Academy.
The cup carries forward a proud tradition of one-make championships built around BMW M race cars. These series have already launched countless young drivers from across the globe towards higher tiers of the sport. With this addition, the DTM support programme gains a true entry-level rung that sits neatly alongside the ADAC GT Masters and ADAC GT4 Germany. It gives newcomers a clear, structured ladder to climb as they chase their motorsport ambitions and look to make their mark behind the wheel.
Drivers in the BMW M2 Cup can count on substantial backing throughout the campaign. The ADAC’s Road to DTM package helps the champion step up to ADAC GT4 Germany, while BMW M Motorsport adds plenty of its own support. That includes coaching from works drivers, media training and test runs in the BMW M4 GT4 EVO for the leading trio. The top performer also enters the selection process for the BMW M Racing Academy, the brand’s talent scheme for customer racing in the 2027 season ahead.
Franciscus van Meel of BMW M GmbH welcomed the ADAC’s decision to run the cup, praising the spectacular racing such series have always produced. He believes the M2 Racing continues a strong lineage, combining accessibility, power and easy upkeep with trademark M precision. ADAC Motorsport Director Thomas Voss echoed that view, describing the cup as the ideal starting point for newcomers and a genuine springboard to higher classes thanks to its place on the well-regarded DTM platform across the calendar.
On track, the BMW M2 Racing produces 230kW and reaches beyond 270km/h, built on the current M2 chassis fitted with numerous competition components. Established customer outfits such as FK Performance Motorsport, Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport, ME Motorsport and Riller & Schnauck powered by Cerny Motorsport will field cars, joined by family team MK Motorsport. The series targets drivers from age 15 with no upper limit, and a celebrity VIP car features at every round, with rally ace Marijan Griebel appearing at the Lausitzring.
