Dynamic Eight Power BMW’s 2025 LMDh Journey

BMW M Motorsport has unveiled its driver line-up for the 2025 season, bringing together a formidable team of eight skilled drivers to pilot the BMW M Hybrid V8 in both the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. This strategic line-up is designed to maximise BMW’s competitive edge as it heads into another year of high-stakes endurance racing.

The FIA WEC team, BMW M Team WRT, will see a fresh addition as Formula 1 talent Kevin Magnussen steps into the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 alongside Raffaele Marciello and Dries Vanthoor. Meanwhile, the #20 car retains its seasoned Robin Frijns, René Rast, and Sheldon van der Linde trio. The IMSA series squad, BMW M Team RLL, welcomes a slight reshuffle with Marco Wittmann joining North America’s roster, pairing up with Philipp Eng in the #25 car, while Vanthoor and Van der Linde pull double duty, competing in both championships.

This synchronised approach will provide critical continuity and enhance feedback loops across both race series. Drivers like Van der Linde and Vanthoor, competing in both FIA WEC and IMSA, serve as a bridge, sharing insights and boosting performance development. However, scheduling conflicts between the two series will require flexibility, with some drivers balancing overlapping commitments, such as competing in Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps and California’s Laguna Seca on the same weekend.

BMW’s endurance line-ups for IMSA’s marquee events, including Daytona, Sebring, and Road Atlanta, will be bolstered by this depth. Magnussen is set for all three events in the #24 BMW M Hybrid V8, with Marciello stepping in for Daytona. The #25 car will see Frijns partnered with Rast, creating a blend of speed and expertise for the season’s most gruelling tests.

Head of BMW M Motorsport, Andreas Roos, highlighted the strategic alignment, emphasising the importance of optimising the driver-to-car relationship. The focus on dual-championship participation and intensive early-season testing aims to solidify BMW’s performance in the LMDh category. With such a cohesive effort, BMW M Motorsport is poised to make waves across the 2025 racing calendar.
