BMW X2 M35i Revealed in Four Exclusive Individual Colors

BMW is captivating audiences at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, previously known as the Tokyo Motor Show. The brand showcases two variants of the second-generation X2. Excluding the all-electric iX2 xDrive30, the compact crossover coupe reveals its dynamic M Performance version. This model is still called the X2 M35i. This name remains for now despite expectations for gas-powered vehicles to drop the “i” from their names by 2024.

The top-tier X2, finished in Frozen Portimao Blue, boasts a matte colour akin to the i5 M60, also showcased at the event. It features 21-inch wheels. As the X2 and X1 have grown considerably compared to their predecessors, BMW now fits both crossovers with these larger wheels. Speaking of wheels, this M35i includes the optional M Compound brakes, recognizable by the M logo and grey callipers. At the front, four-piston callipers grip 385-mm drilled discs, while the rear has single-piston callipers with 330-mm discs.

The “M,” known as the “most powerful letter in the world,” now adorns the kidney grille, a feature missing from the previous X2 M35i. We recently noticed the “M” on the engine cover of the X1 M35i with its hood open, suggesting similar updates for the coupe-styled version. BMW intends to outfit the upcoming M135i hot hatch with a quad exhaust system, mirroring these high-performance crossovers. This more aggressive setup might also appear in the M235i Gran Coupe.

We see the new X2, codenamed U10, as the ideal baby X6 it was always meant to be. This may attract younger buyers who find the larger Sports Activity Coupe out of reach. While there’s speculation about the X4’s retirement post-current generation, an all-electric iX4 is also on the horizon.

Produced in Leipzig, the new X2 will hit the market in 2024. BMW aims to broaden the range later in the summer, adding a second diesel X2 and a front-wheel-drive, single-motor iX2.
