200,000 BMW cars recalled in China due to airbag defects

In an announcement by China’s regulatory agency called AQSI, they indicated 200,000 units of BMW cars being recalled due to determined airbag defects.

BMW will be fixing the defective airbags for free. The specific defect is the unexpected creation of debris harmful for passengers when it is activated. This is being cause by a gas generator defect that was manufactured by Takata of Japan.

A similar recall was also done for millions of US-released vehicles due to a Takata defect as well.

China’s AQSIQ regulatory agency, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, said the latest recall included some 169,000 imported BMWs produced between December 2005 and December 2011. Also included were nearly 25,000 vehicles assembled inside China between July 2005 and December 2011.
