BMW M3 Touring GT3 EVO Build Turns April Fools’ Joke into Reality

The BMW M3 Touring GT3 EVO started life as an April Fools’ Day joke, but it has since materialised on social media as a genuine one-off. Conceived by freelance creative director Simon von Broich, this project takes a standard M3 Touring and dramatically reshapes it with bespoke bodywork inspired by the M4 GT3 EVO race car.

While parts like the front bumper, bonnet, and headlights may have been borrowed from existing GT3 components, the wagon’s flared arches, rear fender vents, and unique side windows required a ground-up design. The result is a strikingly wide, low estate that merges the practicality of a long-roof M3 with the high-impact visual presence of a thoroughbred track machine.

Beneath the custom exterior, there’s no official confirmation of any special mechanical work beyond what’s needed to fit the wide tyres and lowered suspension. Even in standard form, the M3 Touring packs impressive firepower from its 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six, which should be more than enough to exploit the additional grip from the aero upgrades and racing slicks.

It’s unclear how much (if any) engineering has gone into balancing weight distribution for the wagon bodyshell. Still, given BMW’s proven performance pedigree, there’s every reason to think it would put up a worthy fight on a track day.

Despite its tantalising allure, this wild M3 Touring GT3 EVO remains an unofficial project. BMW already campaigns the M4 GT3, so building a full-on GT3-spec estate might not be high on its list. That said, the concept provides a welcome glimpse into how a practical family car could metamorphose into something far more radical. This idea sparks the imagination of enthusiasts who dream of more motorsport-inspired wagons on the grid. For now, though, it is a beautifully executed one-off that proves that not every April Fools’ prank is entirely made up.
