BMW M2 Convertible Rumors Denied

There was so much excitement two days ago when the interwebs saw what we thought were real photos of the BMW M2 Convertible. They were allegedly official images and so it hinted that an M2 Convertible was in the works. However, a close source denied these rumors and said that BMW is not planning any BMW M2 Convertible and for good reason.

BMW M2 Convertible Rumors Denied

There is a very high possibility that the German automaker is already working on an enhanced M2 GTS. Making the M2 Convertible is not aligned with these plans.

In February 2016, M2 chief engineer Frank Isenberg also denied any plans of creating a BMW M2 cabriolet: “there will not be an M2 Convertible. We need to keep it as purist as we did with the 1 Series M Coupe. We’ve got such a nice M235i Convertible. And convertibles are not for racetracks, they’re for cruising.”

With the building capabilities of BMW, it will be very easy to make an M2 cabriolet. However, BMW also has to consider the demographic that the car will appeal to. Chances are, the rate take for the M2 convertible can be relatively low. Thus, it will not justify all the effort that will go to actually producing this car,

BMW fans will then have to settle for an sportier model based on the M2. Anyway, it is not a bad fallback either.
