BMW M3 Touring G81: The Perfect Car You’ve Been Waiting For

BMW has finally launched the highly anticipated M3 Touring G81, a performance wagon that was once only a one-off prototype in 2000. Now available as a series production model, it has reached Australia, among other regions. The M3 Touring was once described as “the perfect car” for its impressive blend of practicality and performance.

Carsales’ Scott Newman tested the super wagon in a bold specification featuring Thundernight Metallic paint and Silverstone White Merino leather upholstery. The M3 Touring impressed with its long list of standard equipment. But it comes with a hefty price tag of $157,600 before taxes and options, making it pricier than the Audi RS4 Avant.

The review pointed out the noticeable road noise from the 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels with 275/35 ZR19 and 285/30 ZR20 tires. Throttle response in Sport Plus mode was too sharp, and the steering lacked the directness the reviewer desired. However, these minor gripes don’t overshadow the M3 Touring’s excellence as an all-rounder with its impressively powerful inline-six engine.

Compared to the X3 M, the M3 Touring provides a more enjoyable driving experience, thanks to its lower center of gravity and sharper steering. The model has been a massive sales hit for BMW, despite being sold only in select regions, leading the M division to triple production to meet demand.
