[VIDEO] BMW M135i’s Hot Hatch Challenge

There may never have been a better moment to purchase a hot hatch than right now, if you’re into them. There are lots of options available regardless of your budget in the current hot hatch market, which is practically oozing with excellent vehicles from every price point. Even though the vehicles that Carwow assembled are all rather pricey, they all provide fantastic blends of hot-hatch excitement and everyday usefulness. So let’s see which one is the quickest.

The Mercedes-AMG A35, Audi S3, Volkswagen Golf R, and the newest, most thrilling hot-hatch on the market, the Honda Civic Type R, compete in this most recent drag race with the BMW M135i.

Due to the fact that four of the five automobiles are all German and there doesn’t seem to be much creativity coming from the German auto industry right now, they are all fairly similar to one another. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engines in the BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, and Audi all produce about 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. They are all automatic vehicles with Haldex all-wheel drive systems that are based on front-wheel drive, with the exception of the BMW, which has an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Mercedes, Audi, and VW all feature dual-clutches.

Since they are all essentially the same, you may just choose the body type you like. Even the Honda Civic Type R employs a 315 horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-four. The fact that it is front-wheel drive and employs a manual transmission, however, surprises people. Additionally, it has a hatchback shape more akin to a Gran Coupe sedan.

But which is the quickest? Of course the Honda was the slowest, as expected. Its front-wheel drive/manual transmission combination is more challenging to launch than the Germans’ automatic/all-wheel drive/launch control, not because it has the weakest engine. All of those Germans, though, are not interested in watching the Type R compete on a track with turns. Can the BMW keep up with the rest of the quick-launching Germans?
