BMW will offer extra services to attract i3 customers

bmw-i3-image1-655x397BMW is working hard to make sure that their electric vehicles gain a significant share in the market and in line with this, Automotive News Europe reports that BMW will offer other extra services to attract drivers to the BMW i sub-brand. One additional service would be the optional installation of home fast-charging systems. All i3 owners will also be allowed to borrow a fuel-powered car from their dealer for weekend or if they are going on a longer range travel or vacation.

BMW tries to add comfort and value to their electric vehicles but the pricing will also be a significant decision making factor for consumers. The BMW i vehicles are expected to be expensive because of the technology and the wide range of expensive carbon fiber material used for its body.

“The i brand will play a pioneering role that drives technology to be rolled out over coming life cycles and to the rest of the BMW brand,” Herbert Diess, the carmaker’s head of development, said for Automotive News.

In Europe, BMW is currently establishing a chain of quick-charging stations along the 590km route from Munich to Berlin — requiring only 30 minutes to power up the car’s battery. There is also BMW’s DriveNow car-sharing program which gives customers the opportunity to fully experience the premium electric vehicle without the need of purchasing one.
