[VIDEO] BMW i5’s Super Bowl Debut with Walken & USHER

BMW is gearing up for an electrifying comeback at the Super Bowl on February 11, 2024, with a gripping 60-second showcase. The spotlight shines on the BMW i5 M60, their pioneering electric sedan. The ad, intriguingly titled “Talkin’ Like Walken,” features an ensemble of stars. Hollywood legend Christopher Walken, the talented Ashley Park, and the Grammy-winning USHER take centre stage. Adding to the excitement, USHER will captivate audiences with a performance at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show.

The ad showcases Christopher Walken, drawing inspiration from his unique voice and speech style. It narrates a day in his life filled with encounters with individuals imitating his mannerisms. Walken finds himself amidst a plethora of impersonators, taking on roles such as a drive-through barista, tailor, hotel valet, and cosmetics artist. His journey from initial confusion to mounting frustration is depicted. The climax features an unexpected meeting with USHER, leading to a memorable dialogue between the two stars.

The primary goal is to highlight the latest BMW 5 Series (G60), focusing mainly on its electrified models. Last year, Salma Hayek and Arnold Schwarzenegger partnered to promote the BMW iX electric SUV. The BMW i5 M60 is the pinnacle of the current 5 Series lineup, boasting 590 horsepower and a 0–60 mph acceleration time of just 3.7 seconds. This positions it just beneath the soon-to-arrive G90 M5. Equipped with 19-inch wheels, it offers an electric range of 256 miles.

Marcus Casey, BMW of North America’s Chief Marketing Officer, has shared the recipe for a successful Super Bowl commercial: a thrilling new product, top-notch talent, a gripping narrative, and a committed crew. The brains behind this engaging advertisement are from Goodby Silverstein & Partners (GS&P), with director Bryan Buckley at the helm. Buckley is renowned for his vast experience, directing nearly 70 Super Bowl ads. Hoyte van Hoytema, known for his cinematography in acclaimed movies like “Oppenheimer” and “Interstellar,” brings visual excellence to the project. Casey believes featuring stars such as Ashley Park and USHER ensures the ad will be unforgettable and humorous.

BMW stirred excitement with two teaser videos for their Super Bowl commercial. The first, “Agent,” humorously parodies the tradition of Super Bowl ad teasers. The second teaser, “Singing,” preps viewers for USHER’s cameo, showing Christopher Walken enjoying USHER’s hit “Yeah!” in the brand-new BMW i5 electric vehicle.
