BMW claims that it is the best-selling EV in the premium compact market. But BMW also offered it with a gasoline engine from Motorrad. This engine was added to extend the vehicle’s range.

More than 80% of buyers switched from other automakers during the model’s early years. The i3 brought in new customers to the brand at the time. The foundation of the fifth generation of eDrive technology was its electric drive. BMW adopted this same powertrain for the MINI Cooper SE. This model went on to become a tremendous commercial success for the Oxford-based brand.

BMW produced the exclusive HomeRun Edition as an honor to the hatchback’s end. But BMW only made 10 vehicles of this model. The HomeRun Edition models wear Frozen paints, a first for the model. They either sport a Frozen Dark Grey or Frozen Red II.

These automobiles have 20-inch wheels with a double-spoke design. Inside the HomeRun Edition’s cabin features a leather-wrapped instrument panel. It also has a Vernasca Dark Truffle leather upholstery.

Also, the BMW i3s HomeRun Edition comes well-equipped with various features. This includes ambient lighting and a Harman Kardon audio system. It also has an electric sunroof and adaptive LED headlights. The ten cars also sport a Carum Grey headliner, wireless charging, and heated seats. These cars even have the same alarm system. The Comfort Package, Driving Assistant Plus, and Park Distance Control completes the whole package.

BMW i3 ends production but China continues to use the name. BMW in China repurposed the i3 for the 3 Series Sedan. This is a CLAR-based, long-wheelbase EV. Later this decade, the i3 Sedan (and Touring) will soon debut on the Neue Klasse platform.
