BMW has again taken centre stage at the MotoGP™ by unveiling the prize for this year’s top qualifier: the all-new BMW M5. Presented at the iconic Red Bull Ring in Austria, this high-performance sedan will be awarded to the fastest rider of the season, continuing BMW M’s long-standing tradition of recognizing excellence on the track.
The seventh generation of the legendary M5 sedan debuted with an electrified drive system, a first for this model. This hybrid powerhouse boasts an impressive 727 horsepower and a peak torque of 1,000 Nm, combining a high-revving V8 engine with an electric motor. This new M5 can launch from 0 to 100 km/h in a blistering 3.5 seconds, a testament to BMW’s commitment to blending innovation with performance. The M5’s official market launch is slated for November 2024, but the MotoGP™ riders have the exclusive chance to vie for this prize before it even hits the market.
The unveiling was part of the Austrian Grand Prix festivities, where BMW M GmbH and Dorna Sports celebrated their ongoing partnership. The presentation highlighted not just the M5 but also the new BMW M5 Touring, another electrified model that recently premiered in Pebble Beach, California. Both vehicles emphasize BMW M’s shift towards future technologies while maintaining the brand’s signature performance and driving pleasure.
For over two decades, the BMW M has been awarded the fastest MotoGP™ qualifier with a top-tier vehicle, and the M5 continues this legacy. The BMW M Award has become one of the most prestigious accolades in the MotoGP™ circuit, with past winners including legends like Marc Márquez and Francesco Bagnaia. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on which rider will earn the most points and drive away with the all-new BMW M5.
