Electrifying the High-Performance Segment: Audi RS6 vs BMW M5 - BMW

Electrifying the High-Performance Segment: Audi RS6 vs BMW M5

The next-generation BMW M5 will be a plug-in hybrid, powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine and an electric motor that generates 700 hp. Audi Sport is taking a step further with their next-gen Audi RS6, which will be an all-electric e-tron model. Spy photos have confirmed that Audi is working on a high-performance version of the A6 e-tron concept. This new car will have a bespoke electric platform, the Volkswagen Group’s PPE architecture, making it lighter and high-tech.

The upcoming Audi RS6 e-tron is slated to have an impressive power output of around 650-700 horsepower. This will make it a formidable competitor to the BMW M5 hybrid, despite the latter’s higher power. However, the RS6 e-tron’s electric power delivery is expected to be smoother and more immediate, presenting a challenge for the BMW M5 to live up to.

This is an exciting time for performance cars, as different powertrains will be used in cars in the same segment. Some will be purely ICE, some hybrid, and some EV. Older cars like the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing will still use ICE, and it’s yet to be seen what Mercedes-AMG will do.

Overall, the next-generation BMW M5 and Audi RS6 e-tron will offer different driving experiences. It will be fascinating to see how they perform and what customers prefer.
