New Vision BMW Alpina Concept Set For Villa D’Este Reveal

BMW Alpina is gearing up to open a fresh chapter in its storied history with the dramatic reveal of an all-new concept car. The Vision BMW Alpina will make its public debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este this week, marking the first model from the marque since BMW formally took control of the Alpina brand at the start of 2026. An early teaser image has already given enthusiasts plenty to chew over, with a shadowy side profile showing a sleek coupe body, razor-thin headlights, and rear lights that look distinct from anything currently in the BMW or Alpina catalogue. The front end appears to retain the brand’s traditional shark-nose grille treatment.

We already know that the first two production models in the BMW Alpina range will be based on the largest cars in BMW’s stable, the 7 Series and X7, both of which sit on BMW’s multi-fuel CLAR platform. The proportions of the Vision BMW Alpina, however, look much closer to the BMW 8 Series coupe, which rides on an older version of that same architecture. The concept’s silhouette suggests a properly low-slung grand tourer rather than a saloon or SUV, hinting at where Alpina may want to take its design language under the BMW umbrella.

Alpina has yet to produce an all-electric car, but with the brand now formally folded into the wider BMW operation, it surely can’t be long before a pure EV arrives wearing the Alpina badge. Whether the Vision BMW Alpina turns out to be that landmark electric debut will only be confirmed when the covers come off on 15 May. Choosing Villa d’Este as the stage feels deliberate, too, given that BMW unveiled the Concept Speedtop there in 2025, the Concept Skytop in 2024, and the Concept Touring Coupe in 2023. Positioning the Vision BMW Alpina as an ultra-luxurious, limited-edition flagship would slot in neatly with the brand’s new positioning as a bridge between BMW and Rolls-Royce.

The decision to bring Alpina in-house initially had enthusiasts worried that the brand would be diluted into little more than a trim level, but BMW chairman Oliver Zipse has put those fears to bed by confirming that BMW Alpina will operate as a fully separate entity occupying the white space between BMW and Rolls-Royce. The focus will remain on high levels of luxury and performance, supported by an expanded personalisation programme that lets buyers tailor their cars more extensively than ever before. While the core appeal will still revolve around BMW M-like pace paired with hallmark Alpina ride comfort and sophistication, internal rumours suggest future models will be far more visually distinct from their donor BMWs than the unique wheels, body kits, and rear spoilers of Alpina’s past.

BMW has framed 2026 as the year that “marks the launch of BMW Alpina as an exclusive standalone brand under the BMW Group umbrella,” with the new BMW Alpina name appearing on the rear of all models in lettering inspired by the asymmetrical wordmark from the 1970s. The brand promises a signature balance of maximum performance and superior ride comfort, paired with bespoke options, custom materials, and unmistakable details that set each car apart. The most recent Alpina to leave the factory was last year’s limited-edition B8 GT, based on the 8 Series Gran Coupe and powered by BMW’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 tuned to deliver 625 bhp and 850 Nm of torque. With its unrestricted top speed reaching 204 mph, comfortably faster than the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe, the B8 GT showed that Alpina knows how to send a flagship off in proper style.
