The BMW Alpina XB7 is approaching the end of its production life, and BMW is giving this formidable luxury SUV the send-off it deserves with a special Manufaktur edition reserved for buyers in the United States and Canada. Built at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, which became the first facility outside Alpina’s traditional German workshop to produce an Alpina model when X7 production began there in 2020, this limited-run variant wraps the XB7’s considerable performance credentials in a layer of bespoke craftsmanship that befits a proper farewell.
The heart of the Manufaktur edition remains BMW’s twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre S68 V8, mated to the eight-speed Alpina Switch-Tronic transmission and supported by a 48-volt integrated motor. Completing the exterior are 23-inch Alpina Classic 20-spoke forged wheels, which fill the arches with an authority that matches the vehicle’s considerable road presence.
Step inside, and the cabin is trimmed in Tartufo Full Merino leather paired with Walnut Nature Black accents, creating an atmosphere that feels more gentleman’s club than conventional SUV. The front headrests carry embroidered Alpina branding in either green or blue to correspond with the chosen exterior colour, while second-row captain’s chairs ensure rear passengers travel in equal comfort. A Bowers and Wilkins Diamond surround sound system comes fitted as standard, and BMW even includes two brown Lavalina leather weekender bags for owners who want their luggage to match the car’s level of refinement.
Production of the Manufaktur edition is set to begin in September, with deliveries following in the final quarter of the year. With Alpina now fully under BMW’s corporate umbrella and earmarked for elevation into a direct rival to Mercedes-Maybach, the XB7 Manufaktur represents the closing chapter of one era and a tantalising glimpse of the ambitions that lie ahead.
