BMW’s i7 M70 is the full-fat electric flagship: a long-wheelbase luxury saloon built on the latest G70 7 Series platform, then dialled up by BMW M with a harder edge. It’s the sort of machine designed to waft like a private lounge one moment and clear an overtake with a shove of torque the next, all while keeping road noise on mute.

On paper, the numbers are properly serious. With 650 hp and a 0–60 sprint quoted at 3.5 seconds, the i7 M70 moves with the urgency of a performance coupé despite its size. The best part is how it delivers that pace: smooth, immediate and unflustered, with a calm, planted feel that makes the weight noticeable but not overwhelming when you’re flowing down a fast A-road.
Styling will split opinion, and BMW knows it. If your mental picture of a 7 Series is the clean, understated E38 era, the G70’s look can feel like a culture shock: split lighting, a broad grille treatment and a rear view that’s more minimalist than memorable. From some angles, it carries real presence; from others, it’s a lot of visual mass to process.
Inside, the i7 M70 is closer to first-class travel than traditional executive transport. The seats are superb, the materials feel properly premium, and BMW’s iDrive remains one of the more intuitive systems once you’re familiar with it. The irritations come from the modern obsession with capacitive touch and pushing key functions—like HVAC—into menus, which can add faff where a simple dial would do. Range also deserves a reality check: BMW quotes around 285 miles, but in proper winter temperatures, it can drop nearer the 200-mile mark, making planning and charging stops part of the ownership routine.
