The 2026 endurance season kicked off at Yas Marina with a six-hour run that immediately tested discipline as much as speed. The 24H Series may be known for day-long marathons, but this opener proved you can still get a full serving of strategy, traffic management and pit-lane precision in a shorter enduro.

BMW arrived with two entries, and both looked sharp from the outset. Team WRT’s No. 669 M4 GT3 EVO, shared by Dan Harper, Parker Thompson and Anthony McIntosh, slotted into the leading group early and stayed there as the race rhythm kept changing. In GT4, Cerny Motorsport’s No. 445 M4 GT4 EVO put down a statement lap to start from class pole, even in a small GT4 field.
Then the yellow flags took over the storyline. With 61 cars across multiple classes and driver line-ups of mixed experience, the race became a stop-start contest shaped by 14 caution periods, several arriving late to compress gaps and scramble fuel maths. WRT remained in contention and was third heading into the final hour, ready to pounce if the timing fell its way.

Instead, two late cautions played into the hands of the leading Porsche, which could stretch its final stint without another splash. WRT crossed the line second overall behind the No. 10 Herberth Motorsport Porsche, while Cerny still controlled GT4 to take the class win despite penalties and niggles. The paddock now heads to the Dubai 24 Hours on 16–18 January, where WRT brings two M4 GT3 EVOs, Paradine Competition adds another, and McIntosh is set to pull double duty across both BMW squads.
