BMW’s next 3 Series Touring is shaping up to be a very different kind of long-roof. The current G2X generation has been a true global workhorse, with production spanning Germany, Mexico, Brazil, China and several Asian markets, but its run is nearing the end after roughly eight years on the line. Its successor will switch to the Neue Klasse architecture and a fresh design direction, signalling a new era for BMW’s core compact model rather than a gentle facelift. The estate body style remains, but the details are set to move the game on.

Up front, the Touring adopts a pair of shorter yet broader kidney grilles, giving the nose a planted, wide-shouldered stance. Slimmer headlights with a new daytime running light signature sharpen the front end, while a more assertive bumper treatment hints at stronger performance and improved aero efficiency. The bonnet appears slightly shorter, contributing to a more cab-forward look, and at the rear, XM-inspired tail-lamps bring a bolder light graphic to the familiar estate silhouette. Overall proportions stay close to today’s car, so owners can expect a similar footprint with a more modern surface treatment.

A recent digital rendering from designer @avarvarii has provided one of the clearest previews yet of the Touring variant. Shown from multiple angles, the car is imagined as a sleek five-door estate, aimed squarely at long-roof rivals such as the new Audi A5 Avant (the successor to the A4 Avant) and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate. The visuals suggest a clean roofline, a practical tailgate and muscular rear haunches, mixing everyday usability with a distinctly sporting edge that fits neatly with BMW’s positioning for the 3 Series.
BMW is expected to unveil the next-generation 3 Series saloon and Touring sometime in 2026, with the four-door likely badged as a 2027 model year car. The estate is tipped to remain focused on Europe and other wagon-friendly regions, with North America once again missing out as SUV demand dominates there. High-performance versions are already in the pipeline, with combustion M3 and fully electric iM3 variants anticipated around 2028. For drivers who still want a driver-focused estate rather than a high-riding crossover, the forthcoming 3 Series Touring looks set to remain one of the most compelling all-rounders in the premium compact segment.
