[Video] The famous E38 BMW 750iL in James Bond movie

From British to Bavarian, James Bond’s preference changed for a short time – exchanging his Aston Martin Keys for BMW ones. The iconic British spy drove the E38-gen BMW 750iL in one of his memorable scenes in the fil Tomorrow Never Dies. The E38 7 Series comes with some of the most incredible spy gadgets ever seen in a Bond film. Fortunately, BMW still possesses the actual car used for the movie, replete with functioning gadgets.

Supercar Blondie showed in this video the very gadgets used, and it’s funny to see what the James Bond executives thought would be cool that time. For example, there’s the rear bumper sliding out, showing off the road tracks that it drops onto the road bumper to run over. There’s the blade-wheel BMW Roundel , which was showed in the movie lifting up out of the hood to cut a steel cable. What an unbelievably specific gadget! It exudes so much of James Bond’s personality and it’s amazing!

The fact that the car actually has a working rig for it to “drive itself” would be the most interesting part of the car movie. The film showed how Bond jumps in the backseat of the BMW 750iL, then drives it remotely while ducking under the window line. For this to look appealing and realistic, the stunt crew and BMW developed a rig for a stunt driver to sit low in back seat, under the window line and drive the car from there. So while the driver couldn’t see as he sits low behind the wheel. they mounted a screen just above the steering wheel so the driver can see.

For every James Bond fan, this video is probably pretty fun to watch. It’s the best of both worlds for BMW and James Bond.
