Former Stig for Top Gear Ben Collins features the BMW M2 in one of his episodes of Goodwood First Glance. He takes the 365 bhp, 3.0 Litre, 6 Cylinder car in narrow roads and sees how it actually drives and responds in normal driving conditions where most BMW customers will highly likely use it.
The first time he steps on the car, he gets the impression that this is a smaller BMW M3. Collins says that the resemblance cannot be denied. The way it bonds to the road is very similar to the BMW M3. For starters, it has a perfect balance and poise which makes it very easy to drive on the road and on the track. It definitely reminded him of the M3’s great days.
Does the BMW M2 live up to the driving expectations? Our former stig says yes. It is indeed very lively on its toes and has a very sporty rear wheel drive. In fact, the car is very eager to please the driver in many ways. It delivers instant response in power and gives feedback to the driver which makes for lots of fun in driving.
It is powered by a turbocharged engine, but you don’t notice it because it isn’t bogged down with grip. It doesn’t overpower you – which proves that it definitely is a driver pleaser. In every move, it meets the expectations of the driver and it is very difficult to not be happy about driving the BMW M2.
Regarding price point, the BMW M2 definitely has competitors says the ex-stig. Costing the same is the competitors Audi RS3 and Mercedes AMG 45. Well, the BMW M2 is rear wheel driven, and that’s something to consider. However, it also competes with the much cheaper Ford Focus RS and Ford Mustang. It is up to you which brand to choose.
