Thanks to the unique vehicle concept, MINI was able to combine intense open-air enjoyment with authentic racing feels in the small car segment: The new MINI John Cooper Works Convertible. Well-established racing expertise was used to develop the driving capabilities of this car through great aerodynamics and a suspension technology. It looks good and is definitely fun to drive – which are the principles that the automaker lives by. This is one mature car and MINI couldn’t be more proud of the end result.
The 2.0 litre 4-cylinder power unit was developed exclusively for John Cooper Works models. It uses the current engine generation with MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology as the basis. It is also the most powerful engine in the MINI portfolio. Delivering 170 kW/231 hp, it offers an output increase of 15 kW/20 hp compared to its predecessor. It also differentiates itself from the MINI Cooper S Convertible with a 29 kW/39 hp increase. Maximum torque is 320 Nm. The engine is matted to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, but a 6-speed Steptronic sport transmission is also available as an option. The combined EU fuel consumption is 6.5 l/100 km (automatic: 5.9 l/100 km, combined EU CO2 emissions: 152 g/km (138 g/km).
With 0 to100 km/h achieved in 6.6 seconds with manual transmission and 6.5 seconds and a top speed increased by 7 km/h to 242 km/h, it accelerates well and is definitely elastic.
The standard trim includes Brembo sports brake system, 17-inch John Cooper Works light alloy wheels Track Spoke silver and speed-related Servotronic steering support; Dynamic Damper Control available as an option; Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) as standard with DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), EDLC (Electronic Differential Lock Control) and Performance Control.
Design wise, it has large cooling air outlets in the front apron, distinct side sills and rear apron; LED headlights with white turn indicators and LED rear lights as standard; radiator grille, side scuttles and tailgate with John Cooper Works logo; optional body finish in the variant Rebel Green exclusively available for John Cooper Works models.
It also features a new textile top with a low-noise, fully electrically powered operation system. The opening and closing of the soft top can be done in just 18 seconds with a press of a button.
