The M3 Touring is now out for all to see. Teasers really hid the full details under wraps so well. But the leaked images revealed one thing, a standard roof. Indeed, the BMW M3 Touring made a hard pass on the carbon fiber roof.
BMW now has its first-ever sports wagon in the face of the M3 Touring. Of course, skipping the carbon fiber roof could be purely aesthetic. A carbon-fiber roof would also demand some modifications to the trunk. This roof will also ask for changes on the roof spoiler.
It’s also reasonable to presume that a carbon-fiber top on M3 Touring may not be popular. Compared with M3 or M4, the touring does not need some weight shaving. Well, this is because the M3 Touring will be used more on the road than on the track.
Still, the Touring can keep up with its siblings even on the track. According to BMW M, the G81 M3 Touring completed a lap at the Green Hell in 7:35.06 minutes. In contrast, the BMW M4 CSL lapped the course in 7 and 20.207 seconds.
The leaked images also showed the model, BMW M3 Touring Competition. Its “Competition” badge on the back confirms what we have been anticipating. This Mercedes-AMG C63 Estate rival will only be available in its more powerful version. And it even includes an automatic transmission. On the other hand, the M3 Touring comes in an exclusive xDrive model. And as we now know, the BMW M3 Touring made a hard pass on the carbon fiber roof.
Meanwhile, BMW has already presented the 2023 M3 Sedan with the iDrive 8. So it is only reasonable that the M3 Touring will follow suit. A fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch touchscreen comes with it as well.
