As the carmaker conglomerate started its Hungarian plant, it writes a new page for its history. The company estimated that this new factory will need more than €1 billion in investment to finish. BMW’s target date to complete this project is within the middle of this decade.

BMW Group expects to start rolling off its Neue Klasse-based EVs in 2025. Fans also expect that the first EV will be an SUV or a midsize luxury sedan. This assumption is based on BMW’s announcement. BMW says that this new EV will compete in the 3er segment. BMW already gave zero-emissions versions for both platforms. Still, the i3 Sedan only arrived in China while the iX3 is still not available in the U.S.

As planned, the Debrecen factory will have a press shop, body shop, paint shop, and assembly facility. Indeed, the Hungarian plant will become a fully-fledged vehicle plant. The facility will stand on more than 400 hectares of land northwest of Hungarian city. Once the factory runs at full capacity, it will manufacture around 150,000 bimmers a year.

Accordingly, BMW will source most of the factory’s energy from the photovoltaic systems near the plant. Other required energy will come from 100% renewables produced in the region.

Currently, the Debrecen factory has 100 employees. But BMW expects the factory’s family to grow tenfold in the next two years. New employees will experience the training center on the site. This site is currently in the making along with the facility. It will offer three-year training programs in four different professions. BMW announced that eight instructors will train 70 apprentices annually to learn about the skills needed for their job.
