Recent reports say that a few key personnel from BMW i have deflected in China to join another automobile startup. BMW responds to this by saying that the department remains strong despite these deflections. In fact, the automaker has sufficient staff to continue operations without any hiccups.
BMW has many grand plans for the BMW i segment and is determined for it to be the basis of future mobility. Like a normal company, we would expect that key people from the management and engineering teams leave, there must be a set back in the planning or production. However, that is not the case according to BMW.
In an interview by Reuters, BMW Chief Executive Harald Krueger didn’t seem to be worried about the deflections. In fact, he spoke to assure the fans that the BMW i program is very strong. In the interview he said that BMW will continue developing cutting-edge electric vehicles in the BMW i program line-up. There are no signs of stopping and they do not intend to stop until their goals are met. There were only 4 people who left the company overall and transferred to the Chinese startup. Though they held key roles, Krueger says that not all four were working in the i project. Thus, there are no delays in the research, development and production phases. All is business as usual.
To secure the public even more, BMW is even developing a roadster version of the hybrid i8 supercar which was announced just yesterday. This is a very exciting next step for the BMW i program. The next generation electric autonomous car is also in the works. It will be produced under the moniker iNext. According to Krueger, the research and development for iNext has already started. They have electric vehicle experts and engineers working on it already and we can expect nothing but the best.
