The new BMW 4 Series competes in Motor Trend’s annual Car of the Year award. As one of the most prestigious honors given in the auto industry, fans look forward to 4er’s performance.

Motor Trend hailed the BMW 4 Series to contend for COTY together with 2 Series Gran Coupe. These two Bimmers represents the Bavarian luxury car maker. However, we are quite skeptical about the new BMW 4 Series. Though a real coupe with lots of good points, it also has some drawbacks.
For this event, the all-wheel-drive BMW M440i xDrive with 3.0 liter turbocharged I6 takes center stage. This engine generates a whopping 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. It reaches 0-60 mph in just four seconds with 155mph top speed. The BMW 4 Series competes as a top tier for its speed. Also, the engine performs smoothly with excellent sound, and the transmission runs sharply with dynamic shifts.

The BMW M440i drives so well it can outdo the 8 series’ driving engagement. It has the fun driving feel of traditional BMWs that combines smooth and dynamic ride. With a competent chassis and impressive balance, this 4er stands a good chance for the COTY.
However, even though the BMW M440i is fun to drive, it does not spark much excitement. Sure, it runs fast and does what it needs to do, but it offers nothing more. And the grille does not help in boosting its visual sense. The new 4 Series does look good in person, but the grille still looks appalling. Its interior and technologies might give it some points, in any case.

Basically, good points go to the fact that the new BMW 4 Series is fun to drive with an impressive engine. However, its overall look and the lack of riding excitement might keep it from being Motor Trend’s COTY.
