BMW presented the BMW iX to the world as the Bavarian brand’s new technological flagship, raising certain expectations. Over the years, BMW has captivated car enthusiasts with some great innovations in its flagship models. The 7 Series has taken that position. But with the electric SUV, a new flagship is coming onto the market that adapts to the new electric age.
Among other things, the BMW iX has a new setup for the instrument cluster. The multimedia system and a completely new operating system as well. However, there were no innovations in the functions for autonomous driving. BMW had promised an update for the Level 3 system for autonomous driving when they first announced the BMW iX. Unfortunately, BMW has postponed these updates. Nevertheless, the BMW iX will receive the so-called Parking Assistant Professional function for the first time in March, which is a step in the right direction.
Even on long distances, the BMW iX can park itself. Essentially, the device can store the last 200 metres travelled and the steering movements via GPS and the trajectory data. When you return to your starting point, a Parking Assistant Professional can take over the driving task. This includes changing between forward and reverse gear, accelerating, braking and also steering. During the automated process, the driver only needs to keep an eye on the vehicle’s surroundings.
While the hosts were driving the new BMW iX xDrive50 in 2021, they also had the opportunity to try out the new feature. And it works perfectly, as you can see in the video above. Watch the video and do not forget to subscribe to their Youtube channel to stay up to date with videos from BMW.
