More muscle, less waiting. The BMW X3 M50 xDrive has just been handed a hefty dose of extra firepower for the 2027 model year. It now packs a mighty 437hp, a jump of 44hp over the outgoing car. That puts it level with the new M350 saloon, horse for horse. BMW’s quickest X3 has found another gear.

The magic happens under that long bonnet. A 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six does the heavy lifting, backed by mild-hybrid assistance and now cleaned up to meet strict Euro 7 rules. It hammers out 580Nm of torque and fires the SUV from rest to 62mph in just 4.4 seconds. That shaves two tenths off the old car’s time. Cleaner and quicker rarely arrive together.
Fancy some menace to match the muscle? BMW has also cooked up a new Black Package, offered exclusively on the M50. It rolls on huge 22-inch black alloys, one size up from the standard wheels, with high-gloss black brake callipers peering through the spokes. Badges and M logos turn dark too, edged in a sharp silver outline. Stealth mode, engaged.

Step inside and the mood darkens even further. Black BMW Individual Alcantara wraps the dashboard, door cards and centre armrest. The seats blend Alcantara and Veganza with crisp blue contrast stitching, while embossed M logos stamp their authority on the headrests. Even the floor mats get smart blue piping. Nothing in here feels like an afterthought.
The wider X3 family benefits as well. A softer-touch surface now sits ahead of the central display, the dashboard gains fresh stitching, and the ambient lighting spreads further around the cabin. These cabin upgrades roll into production from December, when the 2027 cars are also due in showrooms. The extra power, meanwhile, needs no box ticking at all. The X3 M50 has bared its teeth, and they have never looked sharper.
