The new BMW X5 has not even landed in showrooms, yet the aftermarket has already pounced. German outfit Waido has built a widebody kit for the fifth-generation luxury crossover, and it makes a proper statement. This is a world-first for the redesigned SUV. It arrives before most buyers have clapped eyes on the standard car.
BMW has taken a bold path with this X5. Where earlier generations grew in gentle, evolutionary steps, the latest model marks a clean break inside and out. Not everyone will warm to the fresh styling. Waido clearly spotted an opening. The tuner reckons the new shape is the perfect canvas.
Waido is a young name in the trade, and it leans heavily towards widebody kits for large SUVs. Its back catalogue already includes the Ford Explorer, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Lamborghini Urus. The X5 was always going to be next. Judging by the result, more kitted BMWs are surely on the way.
The build is muscular without tipping into caricature. The body sits noticeably wider than standard, though the tuner has resisted the urge to go over the top. A deep front chin nods to the M5, while low side skirts and a chunky rear diffuser sharpen the stance. The boot spoiler even gains an extra pair of strakes. The overall effect is closer to a GT racer than a school-run haulier.
Keen buyers can pre-order the kit now through Waido’s official channels. The catch is patience. The standard X5 is not due to reach dealers until the final quarter of 2026, so BMW is still building stock. The upgrade adds no extra power, but the new X5 should already be brisk, whatever the engine. For anyone who wants their crossover to stand apart from the crowd, this is one way to do it.
