BMW 6 Series GT Lives On As Two New Ones Sell Again In 2025

BMW has a habit of sprinkling oddballs into its line-up, and few were stranger than the 6 Series Gran Turismo. A big, comfort-led hatchback with a tailgate, it tried to sit between saloon and estate, offering long-legged refinement with the practicality of a liftback rather than a boot lid.

In the United States, it didn’t last long, disappearing after the 2019 model year as buyers flocked to more familiar shapes. The high-riding, heavy-tail silhouette never really found its crowd, even though the formula made sense on paper: loads of rear-seat space, a relaxed ride, and easy access to the luggage area.

And yet, like a forgotten key fob turning up on the sofa, the 6 Series GT has popped back onto the sales sheets. Two “new” examples were registered in 2025—one in the third quarter and another in the fourth—years after the model was officially shown the door. It’s not even a one-off curiosity, either: a single car moved in 2024, with small but stubborn numbers appearing in earlier years as leftover stock slowly found homes.

Elsewhere, the 6 Series GT carried on beyond America, receiving updates for other markets before production finally wound down globally. It’s a reminder that not every BMW needs to be a straight-laced saloon or a chunky SUV; sometimes the brand builds a niche tool for drivers who want motorway comfort, a big cabin, and a proper load bay without stepping into an X model.

The 6 Series GT wasn’t the only automotive “zombie” to shuffle into a showroom last year, either—an i3 also managed a late registration long after production ended. Whether these sales are the last echoes of dealer inventory or collectors snapping up curiosities, they prove one thing: even discontinued BMWs can still find a new set of plates when the right buyer comes along.
