BMW i7 Makes Electric Luxury Calm, Fast And Beautifully Made

The BMW i7 takes centre stage as Munich’s electric flagship, a long-wheelbase saloon that blends presence with poise. From the driver’s seat, it feels purpose-built for quiet progress: crisp throttle response, seamless power delivery and a chassis that glides over poor surfaces without becoming floaty. It’s the sort of car that shrinks long journeys, dispensing with motorway miles in hushed, unflustered style.

Look closer and the detailing underlines its brief. The i7 eDrive50 wears clean surfacing and confident proportions, while the eDrive50 M Sport Edition adds more assertive bumpers, side skirts and high-gloss trim. Standard 20-inch alloys fill the arches neatly, and a two-tone paint option amplifies the stance. The optional crystal headlights – developed with Swarovski – lend a distinctive signature after dark, matching the drama of its lighting choreography.

Inside, the cabin is set up for long-haul comfort. Merino leather upholstery is standard, with wool-cashmere and open-pore wood available for a warmer feel. A glass roof floods the interior with light – it’s 40 per cent larger than before – and the BMW Curved Display pairs a 12.3-inch instrument panel with a 14.9-inch central screen. The Interaction Bar tidies up switchgear, leaving a clean, modern dash that’s easy to use on the move.

Performance is quietly decisive. Twin electric motors deliver a combined 455hp and 650Nm, good for 0–100km/h in 5.5 seconds, yet the powertrain majors on smoothness rather than theatrics. DC charging at up to 195kW takes the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in roughly 34 minutes, and a projected range of up to 611km keeps charging stops infrequent. Body control remains tidy at speed, the steering builds weight naturally, and road noise is kept at arm’s length.

Sustainability sits at the core of engineering. The motors avoid rare earth materials, and the car is built using 100 per cent renewable energy, trimming the production footprint by as much as 18 per cent. Add in the serene ride, precise responses and a cabin finished to a high standard, and the verdict is clear: the BMW i7 takes electric executive motoring to a polished new level.
